Since its conception, Hearts for Youth, a local grassroots youth development organization located in Alexandria Bay, NY, has envisioned owning and operating a youth center from which it can provide most of its programs and a safe place for youth to grow, learn, and socialize. There is currently no community facility of any kind in the immediate area.
The purpose of the above survey is to conduct a SWOT analysis on this issue. An acronym for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, this SWOT will help determine the community of Alexandria’s interest in, opinion of and concerns about establishing a youth center in one of the surrounding villages: preferably Alexandria Bay. In doing so, the survey will gauge Hearts for Youth and the Town of Alexandria’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in developing a local youth center, and identify ways to minimize the effect of these weaknesses while maximizing strengths. If interested in voicing your opinion, just click the link above!
We greatly value our community and youth’s opinions and needs in Hearts for Youth decision making, and we hope to hear from you soon! Thank you all for being part of what will hopefully be a wonderful new beginning for the organization and our community!

Last week, June 25-29, eight of our students traveled to Sackets Harbor for a steel drum clinic offered by the River Rat Rhythm Project. A total of 50 students and adults from around the county came together in four groups to learn this creative art and enjoy a unique, positive musical experience. With the mission of engaging the community in a celebration of cultural diversity through music that is rooted in Caribbean artistic expression, this clinic provided a tool to nurture cultural understanding, team work, and discipline. To come and see students from Alex Bay play and put this life skill into practice, they will be performing at a series of public performances and parades throughout July:

Check out this cool collage of our youth in action this past year! Between volunteering at spaghetti dinners, putting on their own at SHOV, competing in a chili cook off, and actively participating in a variety of sports and service events, our students continually prove themselves capable of anything they put their minds to! We are very proud of them, and can’t wait to see what’s up for this year!
Hearts for Youth is re-establishing our One-to-One- mentoring program. There are children in our community that need someone to spend quality time with them. We are looking for adult volunteers that could give 1 hour a week after school hours from 3pm-4pm to be able to help in the growth and life of a child. We hope that you will search your heart and see if this is something that you would consider doing to make a difference in the life of a child. Please call the Hearts for Youth office at 315-482-9971 ext.2130 for more information. Our email address is hfy@alexandriacentral.org. Thank you for considering this great opportunity to mentor a child.
